How does live transcription work?+
Tap the mic and start talking. Live Transcribe listens through the microphone and runs a Whisper speech-recognition model right on your phone. Settled sentences lock in as plain text while the newest phrase keeps refining — when you stop, you get a clean, timestamped transcript.
Is my audio uploaded anywhere?+
No. The recording, the recognition and the transcript all happen on your device. The only time the app uses the internet is when you download a speech model — and that request never contains any audio or text of yours.
Why do I need to download a model?+
The AI that turns speech into text has to live somewhere. Cloud apps keep it on their servers — Live Transcribe keeps it on your phone, which is why there's a one-time download (from 32 MB for Tiny up to about 1 GB for Large v3). After that, transcription works with no connection at all, even in airplane mode.
Which model should I pick?+
Medium is the default and the sweet spot for most languages, including Turkish. If you mainly want speed for live captions, try Base or Small. If you want maximum accuracy for recorded files on a recent phone, Large v3 Turbo is excellent. You can download, switch and delete models freely under “Models”.
Which languages are supported?+
Whisper models understand roughly 100 languages. Live Transcribe auto-detects what you're speaking and writes in that language. Smaller models are noticeably weaker in non-English languages — if your language comes out garbled, step up a model size.
Can I transcribe an existing recording?+
Yes — tap “WAV file” and pick a recording. Any common WAV flavor works (sample rate and channels are converted automatically). Support for compressed formats like m4a and mp3 is on the roadmap.
Live transcription lags behind my speech. What can I do?+
Live mode re-transcribes a sliding window of recent audio every few seconds, so a phrase can take a moment to settle. If it consistently falls behind, switch to a smaller model (Small or Base) — they keep up in real time on most phones.
How do I free up storage?+
Open “Models” and tap the trash icon next to any downloaded model. Deleting the app removes everything: models and any transcripts you haven't copied out.
Which devices are supported?+
iPhone (iOS 16.4 or newer) and modern Android phones (Android 7+). Bigger models want newer devices — Medium and up feel best on phones from the last few years.
