Frequently asked

How do I record a single window?+

Pick the window in the recorder, choose a camera and any microphones you want, and press Record. Your camera floats in a round bubble you can park anywhere; it is kept as its own track, so you can still move it in the editor. Stop the recording and it opens in the editor.

I allowed Screen Recording, but Clipzoom still can't see my screen.+

macOS only applies the Screen Recording permission after the app restarts. Quit Clipzoom (⌘Q) and open it again. If it still can't, check that Clipzoom is switched on in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording.

Where are my recordings?+

In the Movies folder, under Clipzoom. Each recording is a .clipzoom file: open it from the recorder's list, or double-click it in Finder. Exported MP4s are saved beside it.

How do I zoom in?+

In the editor, click a point of the video to zoom in there at the playhead, and pinch to zoom further. Drag the ends of a zoom on the zoom lane to change when it starts and ends. Zooms suggested from your clicks wait on that lane, dashed, until you add them.

How do I cut out mistakes and pauses?+

Drag across the cut lane to take out a slip. Pauses in your speech wait on the cut lane, dashed: click one to cut it, or cut every pause longer than a length you choose at once. Select a cut and press Delete to put it back. Drag the handles at either end of the video lane to trim.

My microphone records nothing.+

Watch its level meter in the recorder: Clipzoom calls out a microphone that sends only silence, which usually means a headset muted at the headset itself, or a Mac input volume turned all the way down in System Settings → Sound.

Is anything uploaded?+

No. Recording, editing, noise reduction and export all happen on your Mac, and Clipzoom makes no network connections.

Which Macs are supported?+

Macs with Apple silicon or Intel processors running macOS 14 Sonoma or later.

How do I get a refund?+

Purchases go through the Mac App Store, so Apple handles refunds: request one at reportaproblem.apple.com.
